Jeju City Upcycling Center has announced an open call for artists to participate in its 2025 special exhibition, aiming to promote upcycling culture and discover talented artists in Jeju Province. The call is open to individuals or groups based in Jeju who wish to showcase their work in the fields of upcycling or eco-friendly art.
Exhibition Overview and Support
The center plans to select up to five teams for the exhibition, which will take place for approximately 30 days between August and November 2025. The exact schedule will be coordinated with the selected artists. The exhibition space is the "Waglwagl Plaza" on the first floor of the Jeju City Upcycling Center, covering an area of 206.4㎡.
Selected artists will receive comprehensive support, including:
- Financial Assistance: Up to ₩1,000,000 per team for exhibition preparation and execution, covering expenses such as transportation, installation, and consumables.
- Free Venue Rental: Complimentary use of the Waglwagl Plaza.
- Promotional Support: Production and distribution of promotional materials, including online posters and press releases.
Application Details
Applications are being accepted from June 17, 2025, to July 18, 2025, until 6:00 PM KST. Interested artists can apply via email after downloading the application form from the center's website. The required documents include an application form, an exhibition plan (specifying the exhibition theme and concept), and a personal information collection and usage consent form.
The selection process involves a document review on July 23, 2025, with results announced on July 25, 2025.
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Suitability to the Exhibition Theme: Understanding of the center's mission and clarity of the exhibition's intent and purpose (25 points).
- Artistic Merit: Creativity and originality of the exhibition content and expression (25 points).
- Completeness of Exhibition Plan: Systematization, completeness, and feasibility of the exhibition plan (25 points).
- Expected Impact: Contribution to the spread of upcycling culture and ripple effect on the local community (25 points).
Important Notes for Applicants
Applicants should be aware of the following:
- Submitted works must not have any legal issues regarding portrait rights or copyrights; these are the responsibility of the applicant.
- Submissions that involve plagiarism, use of others' works, identity theft, or copying of foreign cases will be excluded from review and selection.
- Submitted documents will not be returned. Selection may be canceled if submitted information is found to be false or if participating artists change after confirmation.
- After selection, changes to the application or plan content are not permitted without prior consultation with the center staff.
- Nails cannot be driven into the exhibition space walls. Prior coordination is required for heavy artworks due to venue conditions.
- Any damage to the center's space must be restored to its original condition.
- There will be no常駐 staff in the exhibition space.
Exhibition Space Tour
For those interested, a tour of the Jeju City Upcycling Center's exhibition space will be held on June 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM KST.
